MEINE FORSCHUNG

Ich habe in Bonn im Fach Amerikanische Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften promoviert und eine Dissertation über Pornografie geschrieben. Dafür habe ich an den Filminstituten in Santa Barbara und Berkeley geforscht. Meine Dissertation “Pornography and Seriality” ist 2014 erschienen.

2014 habe ich die Ausstellung Porn That Way über queere Pornografie am Schwulen Museum in Berlin mitkuratiert.

Pornography is repetitious to a degree that is hard to find anywhere else in audiovisual culture. Characters, acts, and shots reappear endlessly in films and online clips. Why is this highly predictable material arousing at all? And why are its formulas at the same time detested? This study approaches pornography by exploring its most obvious feature: seriality. Schaschek argues that porn’s repetitive formulas are constitutive for the genre as such. She shows that understanding its serial strategies is an important step toward understanding the fascination and frustration that derive from pornography – as a gender system, an industry, and, ultimately, a source of pleasure.

Porn That Way

Zum ersten Mal vereint eine Ausstellung die historische und aktuelle Entwicklung von schwuler, lesbischer, queerer und Trans*-Pornografie.

„Porn That Way“ ist eine wissenschaftliche, kritische und zugleich lustvolle Schau. Sie erstreckt sich von  den dunklen und versteckten Anfängen der bewusst homosexuellen Pornografie im 19. Jahrhundert bis zu den selbstbewussten  öffentlichen Produktionen der 70er Jahre, von Filmen aus der Zeit der AIDS-Krise bis zur aktuellen sex-positiven feministischen Bewegung. Ebenso berücksichtigt wird „Romantischer Porno“ als Antwort auf „Reality Porn 2.0“ und die sich zunehmend etablierende Trans*-Pornografie.

Fotos, Postkarten, Filme und Zeitschriften, Kostüme, Verträge, Originalvideokassetten, Poster, Flyer – genauso Vintage-Dildos, Erektionsspritzen, Pillen und Kameraausrüstungen – aus Archiven und von Studios sowie Privatpersonen rund um den Globus spiegeln die zunehmende Emanzipation queerer Sexualitäten. Zwar zeigen sie teils große zeitliche und kommerzielle Unterschiede, etwa in der Darstellung von lesbischem und schwulem Begehren. Doch vor allem die jüngeren Produktionen, denen sich die Ausstellung ebenfalls widmet, verwischen traditionelle Grenzen von Lust und Geschlecht.

 

Die Ausstellung ist ab 18 Jahren zugänglich.
